Short bio:
Simon Garibyan works on queer literature and film in Armenia and Georgia, as well as engages with questions of gender/sexuality and the cultural and social history of the South Caucasus. His analysis, informed by transnational and postcolonial perspectives, and critical and poststructuralist theory, examines a wide range of literary and film production in the region in the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries. In so doing, his research seeks to reexamine the history of queer culture in combination with the Soviet “center” and its “margins” and aims to broaden the understanding of both queer studies and postcolonial theories.
